Opportunities Desk: How to Win Grants, Fellowships and Funding

Scholarships, grants, fellowships, internships and accelerator places are competitive — but most applications fail on avoidable basics.

Read the eligibility criteria twice

A striking share of applications are rejected before assessment because a document is missing or the applicant does not meet a stated requirement. Build a checklist directly from the funder's own wording.

Evidence beats ambition

  • Show traction with numbers, however small
  • Attach letters from real partners or customers
  • Present a budget that adds up to the exact amount requested
  • Explain what happens after the funding ends

Apply on a calendar, not on impulse

Practical tip: Keep a rolling sheet of opportunities with deadlines, required documents and status. Applying to four well-matched programmes beats twenty rushed submissions.
